Freewheel day in London on 23rd September

Published by Matt Polaine | Filed under Bicycle, Cycling, Cycling infrastructure, Events

The centre of London is to be completely closed off to traffic in a bid to inspire more cyclists to take to their bikes in the capital.

The ‘Hovis London Freewheel’ will take place on sunday 23rd September, and is open to all Londoners. The 14km route will be free of all non-cycle traffic, allowing cyclists the chance to take in some of London’s most iconic sights - such as the London Eye, Westminster and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

freewheel_homepage.gifThe central London traffic-free zone will be open from 11am-4pm. There is no official start or finish but there are several entry points and riders can circulate as many times as they like.

The event is designed to encourage people to ride to work through central London.

The London Cycling Campaign will be leading rides across the borough start points to join six Freewheel hubs across London, where riders can gather to be led by experienced cyclists on routes free of non-cycling traffic. There will also be experts on hand to check over bikes.

Pre-registration is not compulsory.  Find out more .
