Freewheel - now believed even bigger than reported.

The official figure for the Hovis Freewheel event was put at 38,000 cyclists, but now as Cycle Campaign groups and participants compare ‘data’ from various sections of the event and over the whole day, the figure of 80,000 is probably nearer the mark. See the pictures.
The event attracted riders aged 6 to 80 and included all breeds of cyclists; racers, hybrids, mtbs, trailers, tandems, even a four wheeler with a huge sound system.
A fantastic event, but one can’t help feeling let down by successive UK governments who have allowed the bicycle to become so marginalised in the transport mix, especially compared to European examples.
A typical cycle-lane in the Netherlands (not Fenland near Cambridge!)
