Motorbike course (now have done)

Published by Matt Polaine | Filed under Family only, Matthew's wishlist, Motorcycles

motocross.jpgI’ve never done motocross even though I have a motorbike and mountain bike quite often. Motocrossing was going to be my 40th birthday celebration but amazingly, no-one could/would do it with me. So I bought a motorbike instead.

My wife, Naisha, has mentioned that she’d like to learn to ride a motorbike. I am not so sure. It is one thing to be able to control a motorbike, but something completely different to survive on the UK roads. Naisha doesn’t believe or ‘connect’ with me when I tell her how terrible the vast majority of drivers’ observation and courtesy is towards two wheelers. I just don’t think she’d stand a chance going from car driver for 20 years onto a motorbike.

However, there is another way, and that is motocross. Sure, she can break an arm or a leg at worst, but she won’t be dealing with some brainless cement mixer driver on his mobile. So I have been looking…

The BMW offroad course looks pretty good, but at nearly £500 each for one day, I think we need to aim lower, and certainly with a view to ‘start from the beginning’.

Bumpy Motorcyle Rider Training looks good because Naisha could do her CBT and Xanthe (and even Zac) could have a go at offroad bikes.

At £125 a day per person the Yamaha Off-Road Experience  looks like the best option to get a feel for off-road biking (with an engine) although the level of tuition will be nothing like the BMW course, but this Yamaha Experience seems to cater for all abilities, even for someone who has never ridden a motorbike before…’Emma Rides’ looks about Naisha’s level (see video). Xanthe could even do this course. Though I have no idea how a motorbike will ‘feel’ compared to a mountainbike in the lose dirt. Guess there is only one way to find out…
